One Precious Lara Quigaman's dream was to be a beauty Queen. As a child, she secretly looked at mirrors and pretend to wave and smile like a beauty queen. Her family never realized that she had it in her as she was a very shy child.
First competition
During her first high school year, she was voted by her classmates to represent the Freshmen in the 2001 Mr. & Ms. Intrams, but because it was a first, she introduced herself, looked embarrassed, walked off the stage without posing and therefore she placed 4th out of four. On her third year of High School she then joined 'Lakandula at Lakambini' -voluntarily, and gave her best, she took home the title 'Lakambini ng Kalikasan'. Her fourth year of High School, She joined Miss La Consolacion college of Binan, but she failed to make the semi finals.
Calendar Girl
In 1999, her parents who were then based in Bahrain, lost their job because of 'Bahrainization'. Christmas was nearing, and because they had to tighten their belt for a while, it means, no new clothes for Christmas for her and her siblings. At that time, MTB (Magandang Tanghali Bayan) was conducting a search called Calendar Girl. Precious' tita suggested she joined the search. If she lost, she would get a consolacion prize of P5,000, not bad. If she wins, she would get P10,000. She did join, won the daily, the weekly round but lost the monthly round.
Circle of 10. Image model Search
Edgar Galvan, then approached her and asked her to audition for an Image Model Search, which was Circle of 10. She did, got in the first round but failed to make it as an official candidate. About a week later she then received a call from Preview Modeling Agency (who asked her if she could accept the final slot for the 15 female finalists, as one of the originals backed out. She accepted. In June 30, 2000 she became part of the first Circle of 10 winners.
Miss SOLACS 2000
Miss Southern Luzon --- hosted by Jaycees Cavite, asked Precious Lara to compete and represent Carmona, Cavite July 2000. During the Final Night, she won two special awards, got in to the top 10, was asked a question. And while the host was about to announce the winners, someone came up to inform the people that there has been a mistake. That Precious Lara Quigaman 'actually' failed to make it to the top 10 and another girl was supposed to be in her place. And so the change happened, and guess who won? The girl who supposedly was in the top 10, who took Precious Lara Quigamans' place. Well, it's all in God's hands now, perhaps they needed to win very badly.
Tee Vee Babe
April 2000, Edgar Galvan saw her stint in Calendar Girl and asked her to audition for Tee Vee Babe of Eat Bulaga. She took up the challenge. The motive to join was no longer for the cash prize but for a dream. She then started to fulfill her secret dream of becoming a beauty queen one day. She won the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly round. Then went on to compete for the Annual Tee Vee Babe in January 2001 , where she clinched the 1st runner up award.
Bb. Pilipinas 2001
Right after the Tee Vee Babe finals, someone approached Lara and encouraged her to go straight to the Final Screening of Bb.Pilipinas 2001. Precious said they paid P2000 for her make up that day so as not to waste it she decided to go to Araneta, Cubao to be screened. She made it as an official candidate. Unfortunately didn't make the cut for the semifinalists.
Bb. Pilipinas 2005
After college, bristol UK. She decided to go back to the Philippines to give Bb. Pilipinas another shot. With no assurance of winning a crown, she went home, left her family, friends and work behind. She met up with David and Ferdz of Essential Beauties who introduced her to Rodgil Flores -beuaty queen maker. She trained hard and gave it her best. March 19, 2005, she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas- International 2005.
Miss International 2005
After a 26-year drought in the Philippines for beauty pageants. Precious Lara Quigaman was crowned MISS INTERNATIONAL 2005. Bringing glory back to the country and inspired millions of Filipinos around the world.
